Dot & the Kangaroo

I surprised myself today. My favourite movie as a kid was Dot and the Kangaroo. For it's time, the animation was good, but to make it even better, they teamed animation with real life photography as well. Anyway, every time I saw it, I sang along to all the songs, felt chills up my spine in the billabong scene where the bunyip may have been lurking under the water and shared Dots journey with her. The final scene always ALWAYS made me cry. I remember promising a babysitter that I wouldn't cry once, but I still did. It was just tragic to a little girl! Anyway, I recently discovered the joys of youtube. I have been revisiting old favourites like Degrassi Junior High, Monkey Magic and Morph. I decided to check and see if my old friend Dot was on there. Sure enough, the entire movie, broken down into about 12 parts, is on there. I watched bits and pieces of the movie before deciding to revisit the final scene. I'm 27 years old, it has been at least 20 years since I watched it......I had to turn it off...I had tears welling in my eyes, the emotion after all these years is still SO raw! "Kangaroo! Come back! Come back Kangaroo!!!" Oh! Just blogging about it is making me choke up!!! Brilliant movie, any animation that can still make me cry after 20 years is a winner!!

Moving House

I'm moving house!!! Yay!!!

Sorry, not a very interesting post, but I just had to share my excitement. No more weirdo neighbour seedily watching me bring in my washing late at night, no more worrying about the girl downstairs hearing my every movement, no more shoddy blinds (although the new ones are pink...hmmm), no more teency weency kitchen!!!

We have a garden, we have lavender, roses, a lemon tree, a frangipeni, 2 parking spaces, 2 sheds (Andy's domain), a handy 3 way bathroom, a BATH (dang water restrictions!), a room specially put aside to do washing in, (I think it's called a laundry, don't know, up until now, I've kept the washing machine in the bathroom) a big pantry, a kitch electric 'fire' (which just looks like orange glowing ice, but gee's it's warm!) and a whole other bedroom to put stuff in!!! After years of living in a flat....I am moving to a HOUSE!!!

Ducks

I love ducks. Ducks are little feathered parcels of joy. You can't look at a duck without feeling a little more relaxed. This morning, I was on my bus in peak hour traffic when all of a sudden, the traffic came to a halt. Every car stopped, because a community of ducks were crossing the road. People always stop for ducks, because ducks are lovely. Everyone on my bus had a smile on their face after that little incident, even though it slowed their trip to work slightly, you could feel the warm fuzzy wave enveloping the bus! Ducks know that life is not about getting to work on time or earning lots of money, ducks know that it is about hanging with friends, sticking together, appreciating food (even if it is a bit stale or a bit soggy) and occasionally having a paddle.
Next time you're stressed, channel your inner duck! (That said, please look both ways before crossing the road, because chances are, without a bill, you may lack the appeal of a duck)
