Summer

Just the word seems to conjure up dreamy smiles on peoples faces! Summer, long days, lazy barbeques, days at the beach, sun! These are all valid and very nice things to think about, however, as far as I am concerned, these are the only good things about summer and they are far outweighed by the bad things about summer. I can't get over the amount of people who get excited about forecasts like this week (35, 41, 41, 41, 39)! They say things like "Yay! Bring it on! Woo!" but when I ask what it is they like about the heat, they can't tell me! People, there is noting GOOD about a string of 40+ days! It's all bad! Below is a list of WHY it's bad! Try and dispute any of these reasons!
  • A few days over 35 degrees, and your house is like a bread oven
  • Increased electricity bills from trying to cool afore mentioned oven like abode
  • Trying to fit into last summers shorts and realising that winter really was too enjoyable, all that red wine, hot soups & stews and inactivity
  • Going for a brisk walk (in an effort to get back into last summers shorts) and then spending the following hour with a bright red, hot face
  • Dying plants, no matter how much you water the poor little buggers
  • Getting into the car that has been sitting at the train station all day and burning your hands
  • Sweat! Body odour! UGH!!!!!
  • Fruit & veg just doesn't keep as well for some reason!
  • SO tired! Can't motivate myself to do anything because anything I do causes me to break out in a sweat and feel rotten!!!

I promise my next post will be a happy one!

One only, don't miss out! Near new condition, hardly used. Appears to be mechanically sound, but I just can't seem to get it started. I accept all major credit cards and would be prepared to swap with someone who has a working one and is keen to see if they can get mine started! Leave details in the comments section below and I will contact the highest bidder.
Thanks.

Teapot Philosophy

There is an age old rule about teapots. If it looks beautiful, it will pour like a dog!!! No teapot can be both beautiful and functional at the same time. Next time you buy a teapot, ask yourself, "Do I want my friends to envy my beautiful teapot, or my beautiful clean, dry tablecloth?"
It's a hard decision, not to be taken lightly.

This teapot will not pour well, or impress your friends. It will just eat your soul when you sleep!

Spin off Blog

I love the sound of my own blogging so much that I have created a spin off blog!!! Actually, the real reason I have created my second one is purely for the salvation of the readers who posses a 'Y' chromosome. It's my special "Wedding Blog", just so people who actually bother to read this page don't get bored witless by me ranting on about all things white and frilly (trust me, I'll bore myself enough!).
So posts on this site will be mostly normal, my whacked out observations of human life and social interaction, rants about random stuff and the occasional reflective and hopefully insightful pearls of wisdom......(pha!).

Oh aren't you GOOD!!!!

Starting with a bit of background here. Most of the people who read this, know me. It probably hasn't passed your notice that I am no slip of a girl! Being a new year and with a wedding looming as well as turning 30 next year, I have started to back off on the calories. I've been drinking more water, walking regularly and going to the gym regularly. I am going to work towards making this a way of life. Not just for my appearence, but for the health of my internal organs, my bones and so I can be active and healthy in my old age!

Before now, I wouldn't say I spent my days stuffing my face with cakes and biscuits. Morning tea was usually a reasonably wholesome snack, lunch a sandwich, occasionally, I would spoil myself with some noodles or similar, but generally, I wasn't a complete slob in the chow department.

The other day, I was washing off my celery stick, which I planned to eat with a small amount of peanut butter (protein, some carbs, and some fibre). One of my colleagues walked past and went "Ooo, you're being GOOD!" When people see me having smaller portions, they say "Oh aren't you GOOD!" or if I turn down a piece of cake, "You're a GOOD girl!"

Question! When, pray tell, was I being "naughty?" Really, in the scheme of things, is eating a chocolate iced doughnut "naughty?" I think not. I think what people are doing to each other in the Gaza strip is pretty "naughty", I think infidelity is "naughty", but food is food and it's not "naughty" or "good". There are healthy foods and unhealthy foods and in between foods, but lets stop talking about it like it's a behaviour (yes, I know changing behaviour around food is a key to good health, but for the purpose of this blog, food is an object, behaviour is just that, behaviour).

So what am I doing with food at the moment? I suppose you could call it 'being good', but when I have a chocolate bar, am I then 'being naughty', no, I think not. It's called eating properly! If I have eaten properly 99% of the week, then I am going to eat and enjoy a bit of chocolate or cake or some chips or a glass of wine. It's called balance!

It seems in this day and age of increased scrutiny on body image, coupled with the obesity epidemic, food is everyones business! Gone are the days that you can turn down something that you don't feel like without everyone making remarks about "your diet" (Ooo, are you on a DIET? Is the DIET working? Are you eating enough on your DIET? Can you really afford to eat that on your DIET!?)

Shut up already! Ok, so maybe I am what you'd call a DIET, maybe I am really GOOD! Just let me eat my healthy food in peace without patronising comments on my virtuous ways!
