So I have been home for a week now. The rest of my day in Male was ok. I ended up booking a day room at the airport hotel and hanging out in air conditioned comfort, reading my book and relaxing. I had a nasty rash on my face which was swollen and itchy, so sitting in an airconditioned room was just where I needed to be!
After I checked in my baggage etc, I sat in the departure lounge going crazy, Male airport has no bookshop!!! ArGH!!!! The closest I could get was to buy a bottle of duty free grog and read the label....then drink the entire contents and see if the label got any funnier. I decided against that!
Singapore was a fun day. I got in feeling horrid, itchy face, bad night sleep and still a day away from my loved ones. So I grabbed a coffee and a book (hurrah for book shops!) and chilled out while watching planes for a while. I then decided to book myself a "nap room" for 3 hours. I awoke from that feeling like I was still on the boat! I couldn't walk straight!!! After that, I cruised around the airport for a bit longer, had some brunch and then booked myself a free city tour. It included a "bumboat" ride, how could I resist! Singapore is a fun city, surprisingly pretty and very rich in history and cultural interestingness!
Back at the airport, I grabbed some dinner and did some more window shopping before heading to my departure gate. On the plane, I had dinner, round 2 (call me crazy, I can't say no to airline food!)! Then dropped off to sleep. I woke up some hours later, a little stiff from the weird sleeping position I had adopted. The cabin of the plane was dark but I spied a little chink of light coming from my window shade. I lifted it a fraction and saw the most beautiful sight....Aussie soil!!! I checked the time, we were still 2 hours from landing, but I felt fantastic! I did some reading to kill time, then did my best to make my face look as attractive as possible, despite it being twice its normal size, red and flaky!!!
We came in across Yorke Peninsula, did a loop around the city and then landed. Customs wasn't half as painful as I thought it would be and before I knew it, I was in a series of bone crushing hugs with my welcoming committee! Andy, Judy and Mum and Dad. They all loved me despite my weird head! On the way home from the airport, we dropped in to see Susie and my 2 nephews. Angus was more interested in which car we were in, but gave me a hug when I asked him for one!
So it's back to work, reality and routine....although I am hoping to shake the last item up a bit!!!
